A very intense and painful view into the life of a child reared by a parent with mental illness. Too often we paint childhood as a fun filled fairy-tale existence. The writer reminds us that ir isn’t. This was sometimes a hard read because it envoked memories of my own childhood, and living with a mentally ill parent. Very well written piece. Katrina Avant’s style of writing always leaves you wanting more, and at the end I wanted to know more of this young woman’s life and hopefully her successfully escape from the memories of her torturous past.
